everyone knows this quote. if your not sure if your going to actually give or do what you promise you shouldn't do it at all. its a little less harsh if you just don't promise anybody something and not get it. however, a promise means a lot to a friend or a family member.  if you don't do what you promise then that will make you look bad and it will ruin the friendship and lose trust.
